The taste of grandma’s cake

Two-course dinners with afternoon teas are already a memory and typical Polish dinners are already rare. We often eat ready meals, and sometimes we eat out. We also like to be inspired by recipes from international cuisine. Milk-bars are disappearing, and pizzerias or fast foods take their place. If you remember grandma’s broth or the taste of home-made cake, you must definitely try the recipe for shortcake with plums – a real treat for the palate.


• 250 g flour
• 125 g butter
• 100 g sugar
• 1 yolk
• 1 flat teaspoon of baking powder
• 3 tablespoons of 18% cream
• 600 g plums

Preparation: Combine together flour, butter, sugar, yolk and baking powder. Put 1/3 of the dough into a bowl and add the cream to the rest. Put a portion of cream on the bottom of a 25 x 28 cm sheet lined with baking paper. Prick the mass with a fork and bake for about 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.
During this time, wash the plums, cut into halves and remove the stones. Put the plums on the baked bottom (skin down). Sprinkle with the remaining amount of dough. Bake for another 40-50 minutes until the top of the cake is browned.
